My
reaction was “too much nature”.
but my 3 boys adored it here. A real rainforest
experience surrounded by bugs, spiders, ants
+ the rest. Fantastic, laid back vibe. Rafting
is great. A highlight was floating, in the
water down the Kelani River and watching the
jungle rise above. |

| An experience you will
never forget – and if it rains the rafting
is brilliant but the leeches are everywhere. |

| Very good and tasty food,
accommodation was comfortable and rafting was
fun. Not for people afraid of leaches and creepy
crawlies. Staff were also very friendly. |

| A real
experience with the white water rafting (including
swimming peacefully in the river away from the
rapids with the jungle & its sounds all
around), before returning to dahl & rice
by the tree houses, the part of the holiday
we’ll remember best. |

| A unique
experience in an eco lodge, wonderful views.
Great fun for one night, it was amazing how
the temperatures dropped so sharply at night!
It was a little bit off putting when we arrived
as there seemed to be no one around and we wondered
whether we were in the right place. However
we eventually found the manager, although Channa
was nowhere to be seen. Food was very good,
lots of it, tried my first Sri Lankan hopper.
Happy to cater for your dietary requirements.

| "...we
are greeted at Rafters Retreat by Channa Perera
- Brian Blessed meets Crocodile Dundee, with
a booming laugh, exuberant black beard plaited
with the vertebrae of small mammals and a battered
old bush hat... Guests stay in 'tree houses',
which are basic wooden cabins built on stilts
overlooking the rapids... Our room has a rough
wooden floor, a bed with a mosquito net and
a fan, and is completely open on one side, with
just a rattan blind between us and the great
outdoors. Sharing our new home are a tiny frog,
a lizard, a snail and countless mosquitos....
That night Channa lays on an amazing barbecue
of freshly caught river fish with vegetable
curries and calypso music from a local band."

| "It
was a pleasure to find that, at Rafter’s
Retreat, we could enjoy nature in all its beauty
and excitement, without undue damage to the
surrounding area. Rafter’s Retreat is
truly a place where eco-tourism has been put
into practice, where it is much more than just
a buzz-word." |
